I remember when Sue-Ann Staff was just beginning her journey as a winemaker. She would leave her family’s farm—established around 1800, before the War of 1812—and head off to another local winery, where she honed her craft and coaxed remarkable wines from Niagara-grown fruit.
It’s inspiring to think about the day she decided to build something of her own. On her family’s seventh-generation property, she established Sue-Ann Staff Estate Winery and set out to make wines exactly the way she envisioned them. Her wines. Her brand. Her legacy.
What struck me during my visit was how comfortable and unpretentious the winery feels. This isn’t a grand palace of wine; it’s a working farm with deep roots, a relaxed atmosphere, and a genuine sense of hospitality. A friendly Bernese Mountain Dog named Brix greets visitors, conversations flow easily at the tasting bar, and the patio invites you to slow down with a glass and take in the countryside.
The wines reflect that same balance of approachability and craftsmanship. Fans of the winery’s popular Fancy Farm Girl lineup will find plenty to enjoy, while those looking for something more contemplative can explore elegant offerings such as Cabernet Franc, Baco Noir, Riesling, Icewine, and sparkling wines. Whether you’re a casual wine drinker or a serious enthusiast, there’s a good chance you’ll discover something that speaks to you.

Events
The winery has a beautiful enclosed space for private functions and weddings . They can accommodate weddings of up to 225 guests under their elegant Moyer Marquee tent (partially visible in the back of this photo).
